Scope: Theoretical and simulation-based study of three-phase high-current AC–DC converters for industrial power supply applications, with a parallel hardware sub-project on automatic capacitor-charging control.
Technical work: THD of a 6-pulse AC–DC converter was derived from first principles using Fourier-series analysis of line current. A diode-based Simulink model was built and simulated, validating theoretical results within <5% error. Passive filter topologies for harmonic mitigation were studied and simulated. A separate sub-project involved designing an LM741 op-amp comparator and relay circuit for automatic capacitor-charging cutoff.
Takeaway: Bridged theory (Fourier-series harmonic analysis) with simulation (Simulink rectifier model) and physical hardware (analog comparator control). Foundational exposure to high-current power electronics in a national R&D environment.
